The International Hockey Federation (FIH) has entered into a significant media rights partnership with Viacom18, spanning a four-year period from 2023 to 2027 as reported by The Economic Times.
This comprehensive agreement encompasses all FIH events, excluding the FIH Nations Cup.
Viacom18 will broadcast and livestream various FIH events on Sports18 and JioCinema platforms as part of this collaboration.
These events include the FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifiers, the inaugural FIH Hockey5s World Cup, the FIH Hockey Pro League, and the 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup.
Expressing enthusiasm about the partnership, Viacom18's Head of Strategy, Partnerships and Acquisitions for Sports, Hursh Shrivastava, stated, "Hockey has been one of the most loved, followed, and storied sports in India. The recent success of the Indian Men’s and Women’s National Team bodes well for the continuous growth of Hockey, and we are excited to bring unbridled access to millions of sports fans in India. The addition of world-class Hockey coverage reiterates our commitment to provide fans all-inclusive offerings of globally acclaimed sports events."
FIH president Tayyab Ikram emphasised the significance of this agreement in enhancing their commercial and broadcast approach.
He highlighted the support gained from partnering with Viacom18, a robust broadcaster in a country deeply rooted in hockey's history. Ikram expressed gratitude to Viacom18 for contributing to the efforts to promote hockey in India further.
