Kolkata-based Ramakrishna Forgings has received an order of Rs 270 crore from a consortium led by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) to supply bogie frames for the Vande Bharat train set.
The scope of the project entails the development and validation of the bogie frame for the sleeper version of the Vande Bharat train sets, Ramkrishna Forgings Ltd (RKFL) said in a statement on 15 April.
With the order encompassing 32 train sets, each comprising 16 coaches, RKFL will be producing a total of 1,024 bogie frames.
A consortium led by Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL) and BHEL in June 2023 signed a contract to manufacture 80 fully assembled Vande Bharat sleeper train sets by 2029 and maintain them for a period of 35 years.
Lalit Kumar Khetan, Whole Time Director and CFO, Ramkrishna Forgings Limited said, "Securing the prestigious order is an indication to our relentless pursuit of excellence and innovative approach. We...support the Make in India and the advancement of rail transport in the country by leveraging our expertise in manufacturing high-quality bogie frames."
Kolkata-based Ramkrishna Forgings is a manufacturer and supplier of closed-die forgings of carbon and alloy steel, micro-alloy steel, and stainless steel forgings.
The company has a presence in the US, Mexico, Turkey and Belgium.
Earlier in February 2024, the company secured a $220 million (about Rs 1,800 crore) order in North America. The contract spans over a decade and marks the company's foray into a new vertical within the forging sector, focusing on supplying tier 1 customers in the light vehicle segment across North America.
