Jammu, Feb 17 (PTI) An idol of Goddess Sharda, whose journey began from Sringeri in Karnataka, reached here on Friday.
Devotees welcomed the goddess of knowledge and the main deity of ancient Kashmir, at Khunjwani, the entry point to Jammu city, with flowers and by singing bhajans.
Later, the idol, made from an alloy of five metals, was brought to the Kashmiri Pandit Sabha (KPS), where hundreds of Kashmiri Pandits welcomed the goddess and paid obeisance to her.
'We have brought Mata Sharda Devi's idol from Sringeri. It is our faith. It is to be installed at the newly constructed temple of Sharda Mata at Teetwal near the LoC in Kupwara,' Save Sharada Committee Kashmir (SSCK) founder Ravinder Pandita told reporters.
'The temple will be inaugurated on March 22. We invite all the people to be part of the inauguration,' he said.
The idol's journey began from Sringeri last month and it passed through various cities including Bengaluru, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Delhi and Amritsar before reaching Jammu.
