The three patients are parents of a 22-year-old management graduate who returned to Kolkata from London via Delhi on 13 March, and a maid working in their house.

Three more persons were declared to be infected with the Covid-19 virus in Kolkata on Sunday evening, bringing the total count of people affected by the virus in the city to seven.

The three new patients are parents of a 22-year-old management graduate who returned to Kolkata from London via Delhi on 13 March, and a maid working in the house. The young man was Kolkata’s second Covid-19 positive case.

The patients are admitted at the Infectious Diseases Hospital (IDH) in Kolkata’s Beliaghata. Eight other members of the family, including the aged grandparents of the young man, are under observation at an isolation ward of a new quarantine facility in the outskirts of Kolkata.

The 22-year-old tested positive on Friday. He was asymptomatic when he landed in Kolkata, and was advised strict home isolation. He developed a sore throat on Wednesday and after learning that two of his friends hailing from Punjab and Chhattisgarh who had accompanied him on the flight from London had tested positive, he sought admission at the IDH.

Kolkata’s first case was the 19-year-old student from London who tested positive on Thursday. His mother, a senior bureaucrat serving in the state Home Department, faced flak for attending office and meeting colleagues at the state secretariat last week.

The boy’s father, a paediatrician, had his licence suspended since he examined patients after meeting his son who had just returned from London.

The third Covid-19 positive case is a 23-year-old woman who returned from Scotland on Thursday. She was detected with fever during thermal screening at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport and was sent to the (IDH).

She was admitted to the IDH and her swab samples turned out to be Covid-19 positive on Friday. Confirmatory tests at ICMR-NICED on Saturday also proved positive.

The fourth patient is a 57-year-old who is in a critical condition at a private hospital in Salt Lake.
