Under Mission Antyodaya, the Ministry of Rural Development has assessed 1.22 lakh gram panchayats based on specific development indicators. Out of them, 128 gram panchayats have jointly secured the ‘top ten’ ranks, India Today has reported. Tellapur village of Telangana has got the top rank while 36 villages from Andhra Pradesh have secured top 10 ranks.
Tellapur of Sangareddy district is the top village in India with a score of 92. Tellapur is followed by Parapatla of Chittoor district has a score of (90). Adhuria of Almora district, Charada of Gandhinagar district and Cheedikada of Vishakhapatnam have secured a score of 89.
The rankings are based on metrics related to health and sanitation, agriculture, housing, land improvement, animal husbandry, drinking water, roads, rural electrification, availability of non-conventional energy and effectiveness of poverty alleviation programmes.
The aim of the survey was to identify gaps in development in gram panchayats and ensure targeted development in areas that are lagging behind the mainstream.
