Asian Development Bank (ADB) has sanctioned a loan of $31 million for the development of tourism in Tamil Nadu, said a finance ministry statement on 11 December, MoneyControl has reported.
The loan will be used in renovation operations and is a part of Infrastructure Development Investment Program for Tourism (IDIPT). IDIPT will aid in the conservation and restoration of eight heritage monuments, a museum, three temples, and a pond in Tamil Nadu.
Various facilities such as information centres, rest centres and toilet blocks will also be built, and solar-powered lighting and energy-efficient lighting systems will be created in the facilities. The total estimate of the project is $44.04 million, out of which the government will provide $13.04 million and is expected to be completed by June 2020.
IDIPT aims to boost tourism in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Tamil Nadu and has an approved amount of $250 million.
