The incumbent Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das is all set to bow out of power and may also lose his own seat as he currently trails against rebel Saryu Rai by over 7,800 votes as per election commission data.
The defeat from Jamshedpur East may come as a personal embarrassment for Das as his former cabinet colleague Rai had made it his personal goal to ensure his (Das) defeat.
Rai had quit the party a week ago and had decided to contest against Das after he was denied as assembly ticket. He had also levelled corruption charges against Das.
Das who had led the party into this polls would like to forget this day as soon as possible as the BJP is now leading on a partly 22 seats, a loss of whopping 21 seats as compared to last elections.
While exit polls and early trends had suggested that the BJP may fall short of forming the government, it was still expected to win around 30 seats in the state. Just a couple of hours ago the party was leading on a respectable 33 seats.
