A ‘G2G’ Initiative: Here’s How Indore Civic Body Chief Is Transforming Garbage From Landfill Into Greenery 

The Indore Municipal Corporation and its municipal commissioner, Asheesh Singh, have been working on a project to convert a landfill into a forest with a thorough plan to dispose of the waste, reports India Times.

The commissioner and his team, a few days ago, managed to clear over 13 lakh tonnes of garbage in just six months. The garbage is now being converted into both manure and fuel, according to their plan.

“It all started with segregating the waste into wet and dry garbage - done by robotic machines. The dry garbage is then sold to the junk dealer and we also convert the plastic into fuel,” Asheesh Singh was quoted in the report as saying.

“After cleaning up, we thought how do we clear the 13 lakh tonnes of garbage from the landfills? To clear this garbage with machinery and resources, we need five years and Rs 65 crore, but it is not possible as the urban local body does not have that much money," Singh said.

He said they were first thinking of making a golf course on the site but later changed their plan and are now making a city forest. “We have reclaimed 100 acres in which we’ll use 10 acres for a garden and 90 acres for a city forest,” he said.
