Pervez Parvaz a 64-year-old man, who had been pursuing a criminal case against Uttar Pradesh Chief Yogi Adityanath since 2007 in various courts, got arrested for raping a woman reports News 18.

Parvaz reportedly raped the woman along with another man Mahmood alias Jumman, who alleged to be practising 'occultism', said Superintendent of Police Vinay Singh on Wednesday (26 September).

Parvaz was arrested on Tuesday (25 September) from Kotwali police station jurisdiction, he said.

The police have issued a lookout for his accomplice Jumman, the officer said.

Parvaz, reportedly a social activist had pursued a case against Yogi Adityanath on 27 January 2007 for promoting communal tensions between two sections of the society and an FIR was lodged at Kotwali police station in Gorakhpur.

Adityanath had been accused of "hate speech" which had allegedly triggered several incidents of violence that day. However, the Sessions court had rejected the Magisterial courts' order of taking cognisance of the case against Adityanath.

The high court also dismissed Parvaz's plea against the sessions court order.

He then moved to the supreme court last month which sought the Uttar Pradesh government's view on Yogi Adityanath being dropped from the 2007 Gorakhpur riots case.
