In a first such instance, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL)‘s Supersonic Omni Role Trainer Aircraft (SPORT) will be showcased at the five-day Aero India 2019 show which begins on 20 February 2019 in Bengaluru, reports DefenceNews.

HAL CMD R Madhavan states that HAL is looking to carry out the indigenous development of SPORT with fourth-generation or greater capabilities to address the gap that exists in the training of frontline pilots.

He explained that pilots would be trained in SPORT after clearing the Advanced Jet Training Stage and prior to their induction into frontline squadrons.

Apart from the supersonic trainer, other major attractions at the air show would be the aerospace corner, virtual and holographic room, and the Jaguar aircraft simulator.

HAL is looking to exhibit its prowess in the fields of defence and aerospace along the lines of the theme ‘Innovate, Integrate and Lead’.

"HAL is poised to tap into the opportunities during the forthcoming Aero India and will highlight its indigenously designed and developed fixed and rotary wing platforms, technologies covering power plants and latest R&D offerings. HAL is an industry leader and will continue to leave a mark as a formidable player in the domestic and global defence market," Madhavan stated.

Indigenous aircraft developed by HAL such as the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas, HTT-40 (Basic Trainer Aircraft), Hawk Mk132, named as Hawk-i, Civil Do-228, Advanced Light Helicopter (Rudra), etc. will be seen flying at the show.
