Oommen Chandy, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary and AP affairs chief, put to rest the rumors of a tie-up with TDP (Telugu Desam Party) or any other party in upcoming Andhra Pradesh Elections. The Congress leader was speaking in a meeting on Wednesday at Andhra Ratna Bhavan, Vijayawada, reports Hans India.
Chandy along with PCC Chief N. Raghuveer Reddy spoke to the party leaders. In a media briefing, they said that they would hold a meeting with the conveners of Lok Sabha and Assembly constituencies of the state and decide the future course of action. The meeting is expected to take place on 31 January in Vijayawada.
Chandy stated that the State Bandh called by Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee on first February is to protest against the NDA government’s failure to fulfill the promises of the AP Bifurcation Act.
Chandy also praised the appointment of Priyanka Gandhi, the sister of Congress President Rahul Gandhi as the AICC general secretary and in-charge of Eastern Uttar Pradesh affairs. He stated that the country needed “daring and intelligent leaders” like Priyanka Gandhi. Oommen Chandy said that India had been facing many problems due to NDA’s misrule and people looked up to Congress to put the country back on track.
PCC chief N Raghuveera Reddy, AICC secretaries C Meyyappan, Christopher Tilak and other leaders were also present in the meeting.
