After Targeting Devotees, Kerala Police Now Targets FB Users Over Sabarimala: Serves 25,000 Notices, Mostly To NRI’s

Amidst the staunch protests brewing up against the police action on social media, the Kerala police have informed that it has served warning notices to 25,000 Facebook users in the state against spreading communal hatred, reports The New Indian Express.

Reports suggest that almost 4,000 have been served in the capital city of Thiruvananthapuram alone and includes charges of threatening Inspector General Manoj Abraham.

“We have served warnings to 4,000 people from my official Facebook page, in the past two months, ” said City Police Commissioner P Prakash.

Majority of the warnings were issued to NRI Keralites says reports. Police said overseas Keralites who are found to be involved in uploading potential communally disturbing social media posts would be subject to severe action. "The police department can even go to the extent of cancelling their passports or issue a red-corner notice,” police said.

However, BJP leader K Surendran who was arrested by the police on preventive detention was granted bail. Sixty-nine others who were arrested for chanting protests were also released from judicial custody. They were arrested after refusing to stop chanting mantras and staying at the 'nadappanthal' till the sanctum doors were closed.
