Andhra: Church Being Illegally Built By Missionaries On Forest Land Near Sacred Hindu Site, Demolished

BySwarajya Staff

The Andhra Pradesh government officials have demolished an under-construction Church which was being illegally built on forest land by Christian missionaries following a legal campaign by citizen advocacy group Legal Rights Protection Forum.

As reported earlier, Christian missionaries were constructing a church on forest land in Andhra Pradesh’s Kurnool district which fell near the famous Hindu shrine of Shri Lakshmi Jagannatha Gattu.

A giant cross was constructed at the site about four years ago after which the church’s construction recently began on the land owned by the forest department.

This resulted in citizen advocacy group Legal Rights Protection Forum lodging a complaint against both the church and the cross with the Forest Protection Division.

The campaign has now reportedly tasted success after the government officials demolished the under-construction church, a video of the same was shared by the group.

As per the Facebook post by Legal Rights Protection Forum, while the church now stands demolished, the cross is yet to be removed by the officials.
