An Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) worker on Wednesday night (1 April) was attacked by a 50 people strong mob in Bengaluru’s Sadiq Nagar, Deccan Herald has reported.
The ASHA worker had gone to the area along with other officials to check residents for Covid-19 symptoms after a house help in the area tested positive for coronavirus. The group was also checking if any of the residents had attended the Tablighi Jamaat event in Nizamuddin.
During the course of the exercise the ASHA worker alleged that they were surrounded by 40-50 people belonging to the ‘minority community’ who manhandled her and warned her against inquiring about Covid-19. They also made it clear that they did not want anyone coming to their locality.
“The problem started when an announcement was made against us from a mosque”, the ASHA worker was quoted as saying by ANI.
The ASHA worker also alleged that the mob snatched documents related to the Covid-19 survey and mobile phones.
