US Presidential hopeful Kamala Harris’ town hall on CNN has set a viewership record as an average of 1.957 million viewers watched it. The programme, according to CNN, got the network its highest ratings for such an event with an individual election candidate, reports The Deccan Chronicle.

The 54-year-old Indian-origin Senator announced her run for the presidency last week and has been voted on the top list of Democratic leaders hoping to defeat President Donald Trump in the presidential elections set to be conducted in November 2020.

According to the Deccan Chronicle report, Harris, who is also the second African-American woman elected to the Senate, has been compared to former US President Barack Obama since the beginning of her political career.

The live event held on Monday (28 January) averaged an estimated 1.957 million viewers, which is far higher than any of CNN’s four previous town halls that attracted an average audience of 1.119 million, said the network in a statement.

As per the report, the town hall topped all cable news competition with an average of 712,000 among adults of age group 25-54 from 10-11pm. CNN was number one in prime time in the demos, the statement added.

Harris, during the town hall programme, reflected on her various policy issues while responding to questions from the audience.
