Arogya Setu Becomes Fastest App To Reach 50 Million Downloads In Just 13 Days; Beats Record Of ‘Pokemon Go’

Aarogya Setu, the union government’s contact tracing app that helps track Covid-19 cases and helps in fighting the infection, has become the world’s fastest growing mobile app on Tuesday (14 April) night with 50 million users in just 13 days, reports Hindustan Times.

The development was informed by NITI Aayog CEO, Amitabh Kant who took to twitter and said, "Telephone took 75 years to reach 50 milion users, radio 38 yrs,television 13 yrs,Internet 4 yrs, Facebook 19 months, Pokemon Go 19 days. #AarogyaSetu,India’s app to fight COVID-19 has reached 50 mn users in just 13 days-fastest ever globally for an App."

With the development, Aarogya Setu overtook Nintendo’s popular game ‘Pokémon GO’s’ record of 50 million downloads on Google Play in 19 days in 2016.

Earlier, the World Bank had also lauded early deployment of technology backed Aarogya Setu smartphone application to help in contact tracing and containing the spread of COVID-19 pandemic in the nation.

The South Economic Focus report of the World Bank which was released on Sunday (12 April) underscored that innovative solutions could greatly help educate and track contagion across the populations at large.

Additionally, merely days after the launch of the application by the Government, United States (US) based global technology giant Apple and Google announced that they had taken up the building of software for smartphones which would help in contact tracing, just as the Aarogya Setu application does.
