Around 40 Per Cent Canadians Say Justin Trudeau’s Trip Had A Negative Effect On Canada-India Ties: Poll

A recently conducted Ipsos poll has found that a large portion of the Canadian population does not have a favourable view of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s week-long state visit to India last month, Global News has reported.

According to the poll, four in ten (40 per cent) Canadians believe that Prime Minister Trudeau’s recent state visit to India had a negative effect on relations between Canad and India. Just 16 per cent Canadians said that the visit had a positive effect on relations between the two countries. While two in ten (21 per cent) believe it had no impact on the relations, one quarter (23 per cent) said they don’t know enough about the visit to have an opinion on the issue.

The disastrous state visit to India, coupled with a budget that has not been well received, has led to a decline in support for Trudeau’s Liberal Party.

If elections were held today, his party would receive only 33 per cent of the national popular decided vote. Support for his party has come down five points since December 2017. The Conservative Party would receive 38 per cent of the vote. Support for the party has gone up seven points in the same period.

While 54 per cent disapprove of the performance of Trudeau’s government, only 46 per cent approve. Of that, only nine per cent strongly approve of the government’s performance, while 37 per cent said they somewhat approve.
