Arsenal, one of the biggest football club in the world today (18 September) appointed Vinai Venkatesham as its Managing Director following incumbent CEO Ivan Gazidis’ departure to AC Milan. Gazidis would assume his role at Milan from 1 December 2018.
As per his LinkedIn profile, Venkatesham has been an Arsenal employee for over eight years. He was earlier the Chief Commercial Officer of the club, a role which he executed for more than four years.
He was earlier the club’s Sales and Marketing Director and the Director of Global Partnerships and Business Strategy. He also serves as the Non-Executive Director of British Olympic Association.
The Arsenal website said that Venkatesham would oversee all business operations and quoted him as saying that, it is an honour to take up the position of managing director and lead the club alongside Raul Sanllehi who has been appointed as the head of football.
Gazidis’s departure has been puzzling for many as the club ushered in a new era from the 2018-19 season following the end of former manager Arsène Wenger’s 22-year reign.
Gazidis was speculated to be one of the key figures behind the change of personnel and it was expected that he would be the man to drive the club forward.
