Controversial author Arundhati Roy stirred up a hornet’s nest on Wednesday (25 December) by urging people to lie in their National Population register (NPR) forms.
“When they come to your house asking for your name, you give them some other name -- like Ranga Billa, Kung-Fu Kutta, give your address as 7 Race Course Road”, Roy appealed to Indians.
This indirect call to boycott NPR met with sharp criticism from various quarters, including from scientist and columnist Anand Ranganathan.
While appearing on a Times Now debate Ranganathan tore apart Arundhati Roy’s NPR statement.
“Arundhati Roy takes stupidity and illogic to such extreme levels, it can safely be assumed that not only is she consuming good weed, she is also consuming meat of an animal grazing on even better weed”, remarked Ranganathan.
Ranganathan added that it comes as no surprise that Roy is asking people to break the law as being a follower of a deranged cult that is what she is trained to do.
He then listed out her past controversies and embarrassments like mistaking Rafale to be an aircraft carrier deal and Goa’s liberation being an example of “an upper class army waging war against Christians”.
“Remember in 2012 she claimed Kashmir was never an integral part of India and had called Maoists - Gandhis with guns”.
Taking on the Communist ideology Ranganathan remarked, “please understand these people are prisoners of an ideology which has killed 100 million worldwide, they are admirers of Mao, Stalin and Pol Pot. What do you expect, they love bloodshed while they rock on their armchair and sip champagne”.
Ranganathan concluded his comments by saying that, “if I had divine powers I will ask Santa to put Roy back her in a smelly sock, retrace his steps out of our homes and TV sets. Amen. Merry Christmas.”
