At least one Tablighi Jamaat member who has tested positive for coronavirus had visited the Shaheen Bagh protest site while taking part in the Markaz Nizamuddin event, India Today has reported.
A Tablighi Covid-19 patient from Andaman and Nicobar who is currently in critical condition had visited the Shaheen Bagh protest site as per individuals who had accompanying him. The patient’s quarantine state means that the cops have not been able to take a statement from him.
“People accompanying the patient claim that he had visited protest site at Shaheen Bagh. But this is yet to be corroborated with him. Since he is undergoing treatment and is in quarantine, it's not possible to record his statement”, the report quotes officials as saying.
It adds that the health officials now have credible reasons to believe that at least one Tablighi Jamaat member who tested positive had visited Shaheen Bagh.
The protest site was recently cleared by the Delhi Police after repeated requests to voluntarily stall the protest elicited to compliance.
