Ayodhya Judgment: Sunni Waqf Board Announces Decision To Not File Review Petition

BySwarajya Staff

The Uttar Pradesh Sunni Waqf Board has announced that it will not file a review petition challenging the recent Ram Janmabhoomi case judgment of the Supreme Court, reports India Today.

As per the judgment, the entire disputed site in Ayodhya will go to the Hindus for the construction of a Ram temple, while five-acre land has separately been awarded for the construction of a new mosque in a different part of the city. The Sunni Waqf board has still not commented whether this change of stance will mean it will accept the separate plot of land.

The judgment may still be subject to a review petition, however, as the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) and the Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind hold the stance that they will challenge the apex court’s order.

However, the ability of the former to file a review petition is cast in doubt as it is not a party to the case, although the latter is.
