Samajwadi Party MP Azam Khan is once again in the limelight for passing inappropriate comment against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Rama Devi in Lok Sabha.

Khan reportedly said, “Aap mujhe bahut achhi lagti hain. Itni achhi lagti hain ki man karta hai aapki aankho me aankhe dale rahu. (I like you a lot. I like you so much that I want to keep looking into your eyes), reports Times of India.

Rama Devi was officiating the chair when Khan made the sexist comment that generated an uproar in the House. She said, “this is not the way to speak, please expunge these remarks,” to which Khan said, “You are very respected. You are like my sister.”

When Speaker Om Birla resumed the chair he reprimanded the SP MP over the comment and asked him to apologise. He also gave instruction to have the indecent part expunged from the recordings. Previously, Khan had made news during Lok Sabha elections after passing a lewd comment against actor-turned-politician Jaya Prada.

SP leader Akhilesh Yadav came to the defence of Azam Khan and said that BJP was the most “indecent party” in terms of the language it used in the Parliament. Azam Khan also refused to apologise for the comment and said that if anything he said was unparliamentary, he would resign. Both Yadav and Khan walked out of the House later on.
