Badminton Star PV Sindhu Signs Rs 50-Crore Deal With Chinese Sports Brand Li-Ning

Indian Badminton star PV Sindhu has signed a sponsorship deal of Rs 50 crore with Chinese brand Li-Ning. The four-year deal comes three weeks after fellow Indian player Kidambi Srikanth had signed an agreement worth Rs 35 crore with the Chinese sports company.

“Sindhu’s deal is one of the biggest in world badminton. It is close to Rs 50 crore for sponsorship and equipment,” PTI quotes Mahender Kapoor, the director of Sunlight Sports Private Limited, Li-Nang’s multi-national executive Indian partner.

“It will be a deal which is very close to Puma’s deal with Indian cricketer Virat Kohli in terms of yearly sponsorship,” Kapoor said while adding that the Olympic and World Championship silver medallist would receive Rs 40 crore as sponsorship and the rest for equipment, totalling to Rs 50 crore.

Earlier in 2017, Indian Captain Virat Kohli had reportedly signed a deal with sports brand Puma of eight years, worth Rs 100 crore.

Sindhu was the first Indian woman to win a silver medal at the Rio Olympics and also entered the Forbes highest paid sportswoman list in the last year. In 2014-15, Li-Nang had signed a deal with the star worth Rs 1.25 crore a year, followed by a Rs 3.5 crore for three years in 2016 with Yonex.

Among other players, the company has also signed deals with Manu Attri and B Summeth Reddy for deals worth Rs 4 crore each for two years and 2014 Commonwealth Gold medallist Parupalli Kashyap for a contract of Rs 8 crore for two years.
