BySwarajya Staff

West Bengal’s Murshidabad district witnessed violent scenes on Friday (13 December) after Muslim organisations called for protests against the Citizenship Amendment Bill, following the Friday mosque prayers.

As reported by India Today’s associate editor mobs pelted stones on ambulances and vandalised the Beldanga railway station, which included flinging burning tires on the railway tracks.

“The protestors all of a sudden entered the railway station complex and set the platform, two-three buildings and railway offices on fire. When RPF personnel tried to stop them, they were brutally beaten up”, a RPF personnel was quoted as saying.

The protest also resulted in injuries to police personnel present at the scene to control the situation. The violent mob also pelted stones at the Beladanga police station. The Murshidabad district bordering Bangladesh is said to be Muslim dominated.
