‘Paperless’ Boarding: Bengaluru Airport First In India To Get Facial Recognition Technology For Travellers

Kempe Gowda International Airport in Bengaluru will be the first in India to launch facial recognition technology in the first quarter of 2019. This move will ensure paperless air travel, and avoid hassles of having to carry multiple documents and identity proofs.

Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL), the body which manages the airport, has signed an agreement with Vision-Box to provide a paperless bio-metric self-boarding technology.

MD and CEO of BIAL, Hari Marar, speaking to the Times of India, said, “Vision-Box’s state-of-the-art bio-metric technology, combined with its passenger flow platform, will enable a seamless journey for our passengers, without obstacles, waiting lines or hassles, from registration to boarding.”

Among the airlines, the lucky ones to get the service first are Jet Airways, Spice Jet and Air Asia. The main objective behind this move is to simplify air travel as much as possible, making it hassle-free for the passengers.

The contract was signed on Wednesday (5 September) at Lisbon, Portugal, and is expected to kick-off in the first quarter of the upcoming year, 2019.
