The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) filed a petition in the Supreme Court (SC) on Monday (16 March) seeking a floor test in the Madhya Pradesh assembly within 48 hours, ANI has reported.
Responding to the filing of plea by nine BJP MLAs including former chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the SC has given time for hearing the matter tomorrow on Tuesday (17 March).
This petition comes after the Madhya Pradesh assembly speaker adjourned the house till 26 March citing the coronavirus outbreak. It is largely believed that the Kamal Nath led government lacks the required numbers after 22 Congress MLAs tendered their resignation.
Speaker N P Prajapati adjourned the house just after the Governor Lalji Tandon finished his customary address.
The Governor in his address asked the MLAs to uphold democratic ideals. He also told the government to hold a floor test today itself.
