BJP Manifesto Goes Big On National Security, Promises To End The Menace Of Left Wing Extremism In Five Years

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday (8 April) made big announcements over national security in its party manifesto.

The party reiterated that it has zero tolerance towards terrorism which will continue in the form of giving a free-hand to Indian security forces for combating it.

To help the Indian Armed Forces’ cause, BJP has promised to speed-up the purchase of pending defence equipment. It also stressed upon the need to be self-reliant in defence manufacturing.

Under soldiers welfare, the party stressed upon the need for proper resettlement of armed forces veterans. Hence it has promised that the security forces would started planning the resettlement of their soldiers three years prior to their retirement based on preferences.

The retiring soldiers would also be provided financial support for higher education, skills training and more.

The BJP also reiterated its commitment towards modernising the police forces and expedite police reforms to make them more citizen friendly.

The manifesto adds that the BJP is committed to curb illegal immigration in north-eastern states and beef-up border security along the international border. To ensure this, 14 more integrated border check posts would be constructed by 2024.

The party has also promised enhanced coastal safety via modern equipment and opening of coastal police stations.

Hindus, Jains, Buddhists and Sikhs escaping persecution from India’s neighbouring countries will be given citizenship in the country under the Citizenship Amendment Bill.

Reiterating its commitment to end left-wing extremism, the BJP promised to “eliminate its menace” in the next five years. It added that strong steps have been taken to limit the left-wing terrorists to small pockets in the country. If voted to power, the party would continue to bring development to areas affected by left-wing extremism.

The party also spoke big on the issue of Article 35A and 370 which provide special status to Jammu and Kashmir. It called Article 35A an obstacle to the state’s development and promises to repel it.

It also promised a safe return of Kashmiri Pandits and help in the resettlement of refugees from Pakistan occupied Kashmir and other areas.
