BMRCL Talks The Walk; Plans Wider Footpaths Near 26 Metro Stations

Bengaluru’s Namma Metro is all set to overhaul footpaths near its metro stations, The New Indian Express has reported. The project will be implemented by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). It was announced as part of the 2017-18 budget. The stations have been chosen after a detailed study and assessment by the Directorate of Urban Land Transport (DULT).

“We did a station access plan study for 10 stations, which is under review by the BMRCL. They want a larger radius around the station to be covered under this project. We were initially aiming for 500 to 700 metres for the 26 stations, though this figure will differ for each station,” special officer of DULT, Murali Krishna, told The New Indian Express.

Urban expert RK Misra, who is working along with the BBMP, said that the plan was to connect every station to points where excess traffic was being created. The area chosen for the footpath development project could reach up to one-kilometre radius from metro stations. Tenders for the project might be called in 15-20 days.
