Punjabi pop singer Daler Mehndi today (26 April) joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the latest in the long list of celebrities making the shift from Bollywood to politics in the current election season, reports Times Now.
BJP North West Delhi candidate Hans Raj Hans and Union Minister Vijay Goel were present at the event.
Daler Singh who usually goes by his stage name Daler Mehendi, was instrumental in making Bhangra accessible worldwide. A prolific singer and composer, he became a worldwide pop sensation with his debut ‘Bolo Ta Ra Ra’.
Mehendi is credited with setting up a parallel non-film Indian pop music industry.
‘Two And A Half Kg Hand’
On 23 April, celebrated Bollywood actor Sunny Deol also joined BJP. He was inducted into the party in the presence of senior party leaders and union ministers Nirmala Sitharaman and Piyush Goyal.
After his induction, Deol said, “The way my Papa worked with and supported Atal ji, I am here today to work with and support Modi ji. My work will do the talking.
Some of the other celebrities who recently joined political parties include Jaya Prada and Urmila Matondkar. While Parda joined the saffron party, Matondkar joined the Congress party.
