In a major connectivity boost between India and Nepal, the two nations on Monday (26 August) launched a bus service connecting Siliguri in West Bengal of India to capital city of Nepal, Kathmandu, reports The Hindu.

The bus service which will be operated by the Indian side in the beginning will be passing through the Pani Tanki - Kakarbhitta border between the two nations and will be operated on a daily basis.

This is the tenth such bus route to be launched between the two nations, and soon an eleventh route would follow with the materialisation of Gorakhpur-Kathmandu bus service.

These bus routes are aimed at facilitating easier movement of people and trade between the two nations, and would also bolster the people-to-people ties, according to Ambassador of India to Nepal, Manjeev Singh Puri.

The bus service was jointly flagged-off by Puri and Nepal's Minister for Transport Management, Raghubir Mahaseth.
