‘Can He Really Be An IIT Graduate’: Amarinder Singh Calls Kejriwal’s Pollution Accusations As ‘Nonsensical’

Captain Amarinder Singh, the CM of Punjab Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s claims that stubble burning in Punjab was the sole reason for the high pollution levels in the national capital as “nonsensical” and wondered whether Mr Kejriwal was really an “IIT graduate”.

Mr Singh stated that Delhi’s Air Quality (AQI) remains more than 300 even in January and February when no stubble is burnt in the neighbouring states. He says that this indicates that Delhi generated its own pollution from vehicular emissions, construction activities, solid waste burning sweeping activities among others, as reported by Indian Express.

In a press conference, Kejriwal had accused Punjab for the air pollution in Delhi-NCR, by showing satellite photographs of stubble burning in Punjab and Haryana. He additionally even accused the Centre of withholding straw management machinery to farmers. Reiterating that his government worked hard to bring down the pollution to reasonable levels, he said that the sudden jump was due to the burning as there were no storms or new vehicles after 25 October.

Amarinder laughed off the remarks, showing scientific data that the AQI exceeded because of large population confined in a small area and wind velocity decreasing drastically in October. He countered by saying that if stubble burning were indeed the case, it would have affected Punjab itself first.

He then said, “Having failed to deliver on governance to the people of the national capital, the chief minister was, as usual, trying to take refuge in falsehoods and fabrications,”.
