The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has conducted raids at fourteen locations across Chennai including the residence of former Union Minister and Congress leader P Chidambaram and his son Karti Chidambaram.
The CBI raided Chidambaram’s residence at 6.30am, Financial Express has reported. According to the Indian Express, the raids are in connection with clearances granted to Indrani Mukherjee’s company INX Media. The company operated channels like NewsX, 9X and 9X Music.
The Foreign Investment Promotion Board had cleared the deal, allegedly at a much lower value, at the insistence of Chidambaram’s son. An FIR in the case was reportedly filed on Monday.
Responding to allegations against Chidambaram, Congress spokesperson Tom Vadakkan has accused the government of using independent agencies against political opponents. “What have you been doing for three years? If there were serious charges, go ahead. If you have evidence, establish it. You are destroying reputations. You are still trying to fish and find out,” he was quoted as saying.
