Chandrababu Naidu Plans To Provide Free Mobile Phones For Cashless Transactions

BySwarajya Staff

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, N Chandrababhu Naidu has asked officials to review a possible proposal to hand out free mobile phones to the economically backward sections so that they may be able to make cashless transactions. The idea came up during a meeting with officials including a few from the Reserve Bank of India.

Officials told the Chief Minister that cashless transactions were possible even on feature phones without internet connections. Naidu, who had demanded abolishing of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 notes, was among the first to welcome the demonetisation exercise earlier this month. He had also asked the Centre to come out with a Rs. 200 note to reduce inconvenience.

Calling black money as the root of all evil, Naidu said it could be curbed by abolishing cash transactions and making it mandatory for all transactions to go through banks.
