BySwarajya Staff

With the TRAI chairman RS Sharma championing the idea, India is set to soon witness the interoperability of set top boxes (STB) becoming a reality. According to Sharma, interoperability could become a reality by the end of 2019, reports Telecom Talk.

Sharma also revealed that the telecom regulator has been working on the idea for past two years now, and that now is the apt timing for STB interoperability to be brought to the customers.

In the present-day scenario, in case a customer wishes to changes his DTH operator, she/he would be bound to also change the set top box to avail the services from the new operator. This adds an unwanted cost of Rs 1,000 and many times even more than Rs 2,000 to the pocket of the consumer.

The development in the regard of STB interoperability come after the telecom regulator introduced rules and regulations which have increased the quality of services provided by the DTH operators in the recent months.
