Chartered Accountancy Body ICAI Dismisses Criticism For Framing ‘NaMo, RaGa’ Question In CA Exam

BySwarajya Staff

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has dismissed criticism from various quarters for framing question in its Chartered Accountancy (CA) exam about “Namo and Raga” by asserting that the organisation has no political affiliations, Indian Express has reported.

The advanced accounting question asked students to match the balance sheets of two companies named Namo Ltd and Raga Ltd which were planning a merger. Namo and Raga are common abbreviation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress president Rahul Gandhi.

After the examination which was held on 6 June, the Congress party raised an objection by alleging that it was motivated by politics. As per Congress spokesperson Sachin Sawant, there was a “clear political agenda behind the question and there was no need to introduce political names in question papers”.

ICAI’s member of examination committee Dugesh Kabra in response dismissed the allegations of political agenda and asserted the non-political nature of ICAI. He though claimed that it was no possible to know the name of the individual who framed the question as it goes through multiple layers of processing.
