In a surprising turn of events, CGTN, China’s state-run television, has portrayed PoK (Pakistan occupied Kashmir) as a part of India’s original map of Jammu Kashmir, which has been a long-standing demand of it, as reported by Economic Times.
The government-run channel, while reporting the terror attack on Chinese consulate last Friday, displayed the picture of the entire state of Jammu and Kashmir. It's not known yet if this is a calculated move to deliberately portray Jammu and Kashmir as a part of India by the Chinese government or a mistake.
A reaction is expected from Islamabad and the Pakistan Army regarding this. More importantly, this will have strong implications on the CPEC (China-Pakistan-Economic-Corridor). It’s considered one of the most critical links under the BRI (Belt and Road Initiative).
India, however, has strong reservations on CPEC as it violates its sovereignty. It has expressed its reservations and dissent on international platforms multiple times.
“It is highly unlikely that China’s state-run TV will indulge in a goof-up. A stern message was sent to Pakistan, reflecting deep anger and frustration of the Chinese establishment with the security lapse. PoK is critical to CPEC, and Beijing sought to send a message to Islamabad,” said Tilak Devasher, a former senior Cabinet Secretariat official.
Formerly known as CCTV-9 and CCTV News, CGTN (China Global Television Network), launched on 25 September 2000, is a Chinese international English-language news channel of the State-owned China Global Television Network group, part of the China Central Television, based in Beijing.
