Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday evening (30 April) called up Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his pending MLC nomination.

As per an ANI report, Thackeray sought Prime Minister Modi’s help and also said that he will be forced to resign otherwise.

As per reports, the Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari has not yet taken a call on state cabinet’s recommendation to nominate Thackeray to the council.

Thus during the phone call Thackeray urged Prime Minister Modi to intervene to stop a potential constitutional crisis.

Thackeray is neither a member of the legislative assembly or the legislative council and the law demands that he get elected to either of the houses in six months.

The Governor is said to be mulling over the MLC recommendation as according to the Section 151A of Representation of the People Act 1951, the nomination or election to a vacant seat can only be made in case the remainder of the original term is more than one year.

Prime Minister Modi in response to Uddhav’s plea has said that he will look into the matter and seek more details.
