November 1, the day that is commemorated as Kannada Rajyotsava in Karnataka, might witness a major change in the administration. Chief Minister Kumaraswamy’s close aides have hinted at making Kannada compulsory for all files that come to his office for approval.
Those files that pertain to issues related to inter-state or those that come from or to the Centre and Supreme Court should be addressed in Kannada. No circular will be issued as was done in the past, The Hans India reported.
Ex-Chairman of Kannada Development Authority, Mukyamantri Chandru, has been quoted by The Hans India as saying, “There have been a number of such orders and circulars issued by various departments in the past. But there has been zero implementation. The rule should be legally binding for effective implementation.”
He further recommended that the Chief Minister and Department of Kannada and Culture must approach the Department of Law to draft a legislation that binds the aforementioned and ensures it is followed by everyone. Chandru is also responsible for the introduction of Kannada display boards at the Bengaluru international.
