Congress Alleges Sniper Pointed At Rahul Gandhi, Later Found To Be AICC Photographer’s Phone

BySwarajya Staff

The Congress party on Thursday (11 April) alleged that a green laser possibly from a sniper rifle was pointed at Rahul Gandhi’s head during a media interaction in Amethi, Times of India has reported.

This allegation was made by the Congress in a reported letter written to the Home Ministry. This letter claimed that, “A perusal of the video by various persons including former security personnel leads to a prima facie conclusion that this laser could emanate from a potential weapon such as a sniper”.

It claimed that the laser was pointed at Rahul Gandhi intermittently on seven different occasions and alleged that it could have been an act by a potential assassin.

The letter called it a “serious breach of security” and urged the Home Ministry to immediately investigate the matter and neutralise the threat, if any. It also urged the Home Ministry to ensure that a full sanitation of the area is carried out.

Incidentally, there has been a twist in the tale with the Director SPG clarifying that the green laser pointed at Rahul Gandhi was not from a sniper but was from a mobile phone of an All India Congress Committee (AICC) photographer.

The photographer was capturing a video footage of Rahul Gandhi.

The Home Ministry has also claimed that it has not yet received any letter from the Congress regarding the alleged breach of security.
