Kameshwar Chaupal the Dalit member of Shri Ram Janma Bhoomi Tirtha Kshetra - the trust responsible for the construction and upkeep of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, has announced that he is confident about the construction starting on Ram Navami in April, Rediff has reported.
Chaupal says that the trust will strive to ensure that the temple structure is visible in the next two years and prayers will begin for devotees as soon as possible.
He added that the temple will be funded by the society and the money will be collected in a transparent manner.
Chaupal placed the first brick for the makeshift Ram temple in 1992 after demolition of the Babri Masjid. He belongs to SC community.
Reportedly, in the Kumbh Mela preceding 1989, the religious leaders from all over India decided that it would be a member of the Dalit community who will perform the Shilanyas.
After he laid the first brick, Chaupal became a sensation all around the country. He then formally joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. He remained a member of the legislative council of Bihar from 2009 to 2014.
