A convoy carrying senior BJP leaders Himanta Biswa Sarma and Dilip Ghosh was attacked by suspected TMC workers in Purba Medinipur's Khejur area on Monday night (7 May), India Today reported.
Sarma, the Finance Minister in the Assam Government took to twitter to allege that after attacking the convoy, the TMC workers surrounded them and started hurling abuses.
Sarma along with BJP state president Dilip Ghosh were stuck at the spot as a result. BJP workers are also said to have been injured in the attack. He alleged that three BJP workers were taken away by TMC goons in full view of the state police and then detained at the local party office.
Apart from attacking the convoy, the attackers are said to have also destroyed 20 motorbikes and did not allow the CRPF forces to come to their rescue.
Subsequently the CRPF personnel managed to take control of the situation and helped the stranded BJP leaders and workers to move away from the spot.
