With the highest daily spike of 8,171 new cases in the last 24 hours, India's total case count of coronavirus jumped to 198,706, the Union Health Ministry data revealed on Tuesday (2 June).
According to the Health Ministry, of the total, 97,581 are active cases while at least 95,527 people have been cured of the disease.
At least 204 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, taking the total fatality count to 5,598.
Maharashtra, which has emerged as the worst Coronavirus-hit state in the country, has so far recorded 70,013 cases, including 2,362 fatalities and 30,108 recoveries. Tamil Nadu followed with 23,495 cases. The Covid-19 tally in Delhi has crossed the 20,000-mark with as many as 20,834 cases recorded so far in the national capital. Gujarat has reported 17,200 cases so far.
States with most casualties after Maharashtra are Gujarat (1,063), Delhi (523), Madhya Pradesh (358), and West Bengal (325).
States with more than 8,000 cases are Rajasthan (8,980), Madhya Pradesh (8,283) and Uttar Pradesh (8,075).
Among other states/UTs where corona cases have surged past 2,000-mark are West Bengal (5,772), Bihar (3,926), Andhra Pradesh (3,783), Karnataka (3,408), Telangana (2,792), Punjab (2,301), Jammu and Kashmir (2,601), Haryana (2,356) and Odisha (2,104).
According to the Health Ministry, 6,414 cases are being re-assigned to states.
