Cutting-Edge Solution For India’s Traffic Situation? Ropeways And Cable Cars In The Pipeline, Says Nitin Gadkari

Union Minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari feels futuristic technology and cutting-edge solutions are vital in developing India’s transport sector, reported the Financial Express. Minister Gadkari while speaking at an event said that building ropeways and having cable cars is one way forward.

Gadkari has also stressed on the necessity to cut down road congestion as well as the reduction of pollution in cities. According to an HT report, Austrian ropeways and cable cars manufacturer company- Doppelmayr signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that will see it provide modern transport solutions to build ropeways and cable cars in India.

At the event, Minister Gadkari said this step would change the face of urban transport in India while adding India needs to follow in the footsteps of various foreign countries like Bolivia, Vietnam, Switzerland. Cable cars and ropeways are already a success in these countries.

Gadkari also added, fuel cost and time will be saved, and even a reduction of road accidents in hilly areas will be a benefits of such infrastructure. According to him, two-tier cities can use such transport options, and he is hoping such modes of transport will convince people to make a shift towards using public transportation from personal.

Transport Ministry said in a statement that the MoU with Doppelmayr includes preparing detailed project reports, feasibility studies, the supply of equipment, construction, operation and maintenance. They will enable development of ropeway projects in various states and ensuring globally accepted standards for passenger safety and reliability, the statement adds.
