A 24-year-old man from Haryana ended his life by consuming poison in Dwarka, allegedly due to harassment by in-laws and his wife, said police, reports The Hindu.
The father of the deceased told the police that he had met his wife in 2016 and they both fell in love. The girls family was strictly against the marriage but they got married against their wishes in 2018. Later the girl grew distant from the husband and started living with her parents.
“Her [deceased’s wife] parents did not stop interfering in the couple’s life and submitted several complaints in Bindapur and Mohan Garden police stations against my son [deceased]. Tired of the situation, even my daughter-in-law submitted a complaint with the police in 2018. But she gradually sided with her parents and went to stay with them,” the father told the police.
The father alleged that the girl along with her parents was harassing his son, asking for Rs 15 lakh in settlement. They threatened to implicate him in dowry case and SC ST Act upon non-payment.
On 25 July, the deceased called his friend in the evening and told him that he had consumed poison. He was rushed to the hospital but succumbed on the morning of 26 July.
The police have registered a case under Section 306 (abatement to suicide) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code and begun probe.
