In a bid to provide hassle-free and uninterrupted network to its commuters, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will soon provide free WiFi facility in its metro trains and stations, reports Financial Express.
According to the report, Delhi Metro trains and stations will have the facility of free WiFi, as per the new plan drawn up by DMRC. The report cited a DMRC spokesperson as saying that the free WiFi services will be provided by the end of this year.
The free WiFi service will be provided without any limitations on the download speed or traffic volume. The mechanism to run the service across the Delhi Metro will be through a two-level network.
The first level will comprise of a train-tunnel (T2T) radio network that will pass signal from the base stations inside a tunnel to the portable base stations inside the head cars. The second level will have an inner-train network that transmits signal from the Wireless Access Points (WAP) in each car to the user’s devices.
As pe the report, the DMRC is planning to deploy the free WiFi service, with a targeted speed of up to 300 Mbit per second per train, across all of its lines, including the Airport Express line.
The free WiFi service will reportedly begin with the Magenta line running between Janakpuri West-Botanical Garden, and the Delhi Metro Pink Line, which runs between Majlis Park and Shiv Vihar.
