Delhi PWD Fines AAP Rs 27 Lakh For Unathorised Occupation

The Delhi Public Works Department (PWD), a unit of the Delhi government has fined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rs 27 lakh for unauthorised occupation of a bungalow on Rouse Avenue reports PTI. The notice was issued to AAP’s national secretary Pankaj Gupta for his continued occupation of 206, Rouse Avenue as the party’s office. The fine amount, as of 31 May was Rs 27,73,802.

In April, the PWD had issued a notice to party convener Arvind Kejriwal to vacate the premises as it was a violation of rules. They responded stating that they would seek legal recourse as other parties too had offices in bungalows allotted to them. A three-member committee – the Shunglu Committee, formed by then lieutenant governor Najeeb Jung probed the case, and after examining over 400 files, found several irregularities in the allotment of the bungalow.

The AAP government had approved a policy to allot land to political parties in November 2015, following which the Rouse Avenue bungalow was allotted.
