BySwarajya Staff

As the death toll reached 18, due to fresh round of violence in east Delhi pockets, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday (26 February) has requested Union Home Minister Amit Shah to call the army to instil confidence in people.

In a tweet which he had sent from his official handle, he said, "I have been in touch with large no of people whole night. Situation alarming. Police, despite all its efforts, unable to control situation and instil confidence."

The CM was also present at a meeting called by Shah on Tuesday to discuss the law and order situation in the north-eastern parts of Delhi.

The death toll has also increased to 18, with four more people being declared dead at Guru Teg Bahadur hospital.

The Delhi police had claimed that shortage of personnel led to the escalation violence as the cops failed to immediately bring the situation under control. A total of 35 companies of para-military forces then had been assigned to the Delhi police.

However, It had earlier issued a shoot at sight order in the city’s Yamuna Vihar area after fresh violence broke out in Jafrabad and Maujpur.
