The video of a Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) youth wing leader and his followers attacking the staff of a restaurant at Valasaravakkam in Chennai after they were told that the eatery was closed for business last week has surfaced.
The video, shared by Mirror Now on Twitter, showed the DMK youth wing leader Yuvaraj and his group beating up at least three of the restaurant’s staff. Reports said that the group had gone to the eatery asking for food or biryani to be taken to the DMK cadre waiting outside Kauvery Hospital where M Karunanidhi has been hospitalised.
Twitterati immediately latched on to the incident to criticise the DMK with the tags #OCBIRIYANIDMK and #ஓசிபிரியாணிதிமுக that at 5:30 pm were among the top trends in India. The tags mean ‘free biryani DMK’.
The News Minute quoted the restaurant owner Tamil Selvan as saying that the DMK youth wing cadre came to his eatery on 28 June and demanded free biryani at 10 pm. The restaurant however, was out of food and had closed by then which led the party cadre to attack the staff.
The cadre involved in the attack are reportedly absconding. Virugambakkam police have filed a case and are investigating the incident.
On Twitter, this is the third time in two weeks that the DMK has been trolled ever since it launched a social media campaign against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bharatiya Janata Party President Amit Shah.
First, when DMK working president M K Stalin was set to return to Chennai after a short visit to London, he was greeted with the #GoBackStalin tag. And again when Stalin said that his party would support the no confidence motion against the Modi government, critics flooded Twitter with #ZeroMPDMK to point out that the party did not have a single member in the Lok Sabha.
