Designer Sabyasachi Urges People To Buy Made-in-India Items To Help Industries, Jobs Amid COVID-19 Crisis

Daily wage workers, small shopkeepers, street vendors and the likes have been the most economically hit by the lockdown in place to combat the outbreak of novel corona virus in the country.

And as the announcement of its extension until 3 May by Prime Minster Narendra Modi speculates an increase of their financial problems, Indian fashion designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee has appealed to the people to buy country-made brands and support the local industries.

In an Instagram post, Mukherjee talked about the need to support the Indian grass-root industries like travel, food, architecture, clothing and entertainment.

The Kolkata-based courtier also asked people to buy Indian products and celebrate country’s heritage.

“This is the time - for all of us to promote and purchase Indian products and celebrate our heritage,” he wrote.

Addressing the elite class of the country, Mukherjee said everybody in the Indian economy was connected and “people at the top need to realise that if the bottom topples, everyone, including them, will come crashing down”.

The economic crisis emerged in the wake of the global coronavirus pandemic has made experts predict a recession with millions of people worldwide might lose jobs.

Keeping this in mind, the famous designer, said our support to Indian industries will help them create more job opportunities, which will strengthen the efforts of stabilising country’s economic growth.
