An Air India flight going to Dubai from Trichy was badly damaged after hitting a perimeter wall while taking off from Trichy Airport in early hours of Friday (12 October). The airport officials conveyed the matter to the pilot and the flight was then diverted to Mumbai airport. All 130 passengers and 6 crew members on the aircraft are safe and no injury was reported.
According to a statement released by Air India, the flight IX 611 took off for Dubai from Trichy at 1.30 am after which the airport official reported that aircraft could have come in contact with the perimeter wall. The officials then conveyed the matter to the pilot in command who reported that all the systems on the plane are operating normally.
The authorities decided to make an emergency landing at the Mumbai airport as a precautionary measure. The flight was then diverted to Mumbai and landed there at about 5.35 am.
The Airlines has reported that all the 130 passengers and six crew members of the flight were de-boarded safely and are unharmed. Arrangement of a relief aircraft with a new crew was made by the airline so that the passengers could continue their journey to Dubai.
The matter has been reported to the DGCA and an investigation is ongoing.
